automated mineralogy

Automated mineralogy involves the use of advanced electron beam measurement technology to carry out detailed analysis of inorganic samples.

The process provides large volumes of quantitative data on such characteristics as modal mineralogy, elemental deportment and texture of sample particles.

Sophisticated software controls enable the equipment to function unattended, giving the capability for extremely high productivity and 24/7 operation.

Automated mineralogy replaces or supplements previous, more limited measurement processes, such as optical microscopy and semi-automated or computer-controlled SEM, providing more data, more accurately, with significant speed and cost efficiencies.

Australia’s CSIRO pioneered automated mineralogy, developing the first digital QEM*SEM® systems in the 1990s. Intellection was originally formed out of CSIRO to further develop and commercialize the technology, resulting in today’s advanced, high performance QEMSCAN® range of solutions.
