Intellection

oil & gas services

Intellection offers a comprehensive range of professional geoscience services for the upstream Oil & Gas sector supported by extensive sample preparation and analytical laboratory facilities in Australia and the UK.

Specialising in mineralogical and petrographic analysis of cuttings, cores, plugs and hand samples Intellection O&G services provide reliable geological information key to exploration, production, basin modelling and contextual geology.

Our experienced staff of geological consultants and preparation laboratory personnel are available to provide prompt, detailed, objective analysis and reports of the mineralogy and petrography of your samples.

  • QEMSCAN® quantitative mineralogical analysis from cuttings, cores and plugs.
  • Mineralogy and clay typing using X-ray Diffraction (XRD) including Whole Rock Analysis and Clay Fraction Quantification.
  • Identification of LCM, Scales, Drilling Mud, and Reaction Products using XRD
  • Chemical analysis using fusion bead X-ray Fluorescence (XRF)
  • Optical petrography
  • Geological consultancy

analysis

Intellection offers QEMSCAN® lithotyping and automated mineral analysis as a commercial service to the Oil & Gas industry to provide a comprehensive, objective data package on the chemistry, mineralogy, texture and lithology of wells and basins based on the digital analysis of drill cuttings.

QEMSCAN® entire well studies are ideal where cores or wireline data are non-existent or inadequate; for troubleshooting difficult basin structures to solve a particular problem; or improve underlying stratigraphic knowledge based on detailed analysis cuttings from the rocks themselves. QEMSCAN® analysis can be used for:

  • Calibration of wireline and other petrophysical logs in difficult to interpret sequences
  • Refining well correlation by fingerprinting unique attributes of packages based on digital petrology and mineralogy
  • Analysis of poorly consolidated sandstones to better interpret sanding processes and related production issues
  • Validating facies and depositional models through analysis of sequence changes in mineralogy and digital petrology
  • Improving stratigraphic resolution in complex or fossil barren sequences
  • Analysis of problematic rock properties effecting reservoir quality e.g. dolomitisation; fine scale bedding; effects of pyrite, siderite and clays
  • Providing stratigraphic analysis in sequences where cores or wireline data are limited, incomplete or not available
  • Improving understanding of rock properties to aid with optimisation of drilling
  • Independent assessment of drilling processes such as the use of LCMs, well-cleaning after bit trips, steering and positioning
